Dehydrating Apples

Apples in the Dehydrator

The process takes about fifteen hours in this “commercial” dehydrator. Once sealed in a plastic bag these will keep an incredibly long time. This batch is about half done. Thank you, Jehovah Jireh, (God our Provider)!

Honeycrisp Blossoms 2023

Above is a shot of the honey crisp tree this spring. I have been picking apples off of this tree all season to prevent it from overloading the branches. The tree is about ten years old. This is the first season that we have really had a bumper crop.

    1. Dehydration concentrates the sugar. They end up with a very sweet flavor. We do call them apple chips. They are not as crisp as potato chips. But they are addictive. The trick is to not eat seven apples worth in one go.

  1. John,
I think heaven will be like the Garden of Eden and we’ll all have work to do just like Adam and Eve did – good, God-glorifying, satisfying, useful work. I often joke with my family that what I want is to be the caretaker of an orchard. I would hope the Honeycrisp variety would be among the apple section of the orchard! They are so good, and I just bought half a dozen earlier this evening.
    Good work.

  2. You got it all going on – personal dehydrated honey crisp apples – I’ll be right over…never mind you are on a business trip…I’ll help myself…what? NO TRESPASSING, Officer, I know the owner, we go way back. Way back to this past May. He said I could come and get how ever much I wanted. What? I’m a liar? You’re a liar? I’ll kick your…OOh, the back of this car is nice. What did you say officer? I’ll be getting free room and board soon and my own bed with a very thin mattress? My family can come visit me anytime? You are so sweet sir, and thank you for these bracelets. Could we paint them green? That’s my favorite color. Yes I do think they would go good with the orange outfit you will be giving me. Very fashionable.

    1. We now have fourteen one-gallon Ziplock bags of apple chips, not counting a couple that I have given away. It is a lot of labor, but it does keep all those apples from going to waste.
